Top 3 Tips to Improve Strength!

Many of us who train on a regular basis have at some point hit a plateau, a horrible time where you seem to not be moving up on weights and are not advancing on exercises. In order to push past this phase, try these top 3 tips!

  • Rep Range - Wether you usually work 10 - 12, 6 - 8 or even 4-6 change it up! You find too many people always doing the same weight, with the same reps and same sets! Your body is very clever and will start to find things easier as you do it more often. Therefore if you are not pushing your body frequently and confusing it with different rep ranges and sets, its going to stop progressing.

  • Training Systems - Another important variable in order to improve strength and push past plateaus. Whilst working in the fitness industry I've noticed the lack of knowledge on training systems and people usually stick to one exercise, x amount of reps, x amount of sets. Using different training systems will confuse your body and muscles giving it a new way to work, pushing its boundaries and increasing strength. Give these training systems a go next time you train:
        - Negative / Eccentric Training
        - Super Set Training
        - Drop Sets

  • Have A Training Partner! - Although you can push yourself whilst training on your own, you will always find it hard to push past boundaries with a partner because you may: Not be able to get the amount of reps you need without a spotter, lower a bar to your chest and not be able to move it anymore and maybe even drop the weight on your face. All of those are extremely common. Having a partner will give you that little extra boost you need to push the body past its usual comfort zone which you wouldn't be able to achieve in a solo session. This will make your muscles have to adapt to the pressure you're putting on it and gradually increasing your strength.

There are my top 3 tips for improving strength! Give them all a try and see how you will excel in your training. If you are interested in workouts using the displayed training systems or how to perform them, head over to the 'workouts' tab and find FREE workouts to download!
